Computer Science

Introduction

Leaving Certificate Computer Science studies computing, programming and algorithmic problem-solving. Curriculum Online describes the updated specification for examination in 2025 and beyond as three connected strands: Practices and principles, Core concepts, and Computer science in practice. Students learn computational thinking, programming, data, computer systems, algorithms, evaluation, creative design and the impact of technology on society. Applied learning tasks and coursework require students to create computational artefacts and explain their design process. Zr Academy lessons help students move between theory and implementation. We practise reading and writing code, testing programs, tracing algorithms, explaining abstractions and using precise technical language. Students also learn how to plan projects, document decisions, evaluate outcomes and connect practical work to the specification's learning outcomes.
